PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
There is a lot going on in the Parish at the moment. The renovation of the Chuch has started in earnest. Our Church Restoration fund has got about a quarter of its target of £25,000. Thank you to all the people who have kindly donated money. Further donations will be gratefully appreciated.
The Religious Education group have been very busy with the Evangelium programme they have been running. They have further activities planned for the near future so watch this space.
The Adult Faith Formation group have also planned a talk in February by Fr. Gerry on Moral Dilemmas, which will be very interesting as we all face them now and again.
The Youth Group did well before Christmas raising money in their craft fair and also they put on a very prayerful mass to prepare them and us for advent.
The current Pastoral Council has been running now for almost two years and it is time for re-elections. If you or anyone else is interested in serving on the Pastoral Council, please see the notice at the back of church. We are looking for eleven people to represent the Parish on the Council. You will need to attend meetings once a month. For further information please contact Father Declan or E mail am.furse@yahoo.com.
An exciting development is we are looking to set up a Justice and peace group and the Parish is going for a Live Simply Award which shows how we live sustainably with creation and in solidarity with people in poverty. Further information will be available on this shortly.
The next Parish Congress will be in May. This will be a chance for us all to get together and agree our priorities for the coming year. Dates to follow.
August 2011
It was great to see so many people at the August PPC meeting. A number
of people are not on groups and haven't been to a PPC meeting before but just
turned up and were very welcome as it is great to get as many people as possible
involved in the running of the Parish. The new structure seems to be really
working as all groups have representation and this ensures effective
communication across the Parish.
We had a presentation by the Social Committee and the Religious Education
Group. There are a number of social events planned for Autumn/Winter. The
first one is the Parish Dinner. it would be great to see as many people as
possible at the dinner and really make this an occassion where we get to know
all those faces we see weekly at church but don't have a chance to speak to.
Maybe it could become an annual event in Parish life if enough people attend.
See social group page for more info.
The RE group are starting a programme of events in September
looking deeper into the catholic Faith. So please check out the bulletin for
further info.
Other discussion points at the meeting were:
The constitution of the PPC. - A subcommittee is going to meet in a
couple of weeks to revise this ready for approval at the next PPC meeting on
Friday 2nd September. If anyone wishes to contribute to this discussion please
come along on 2nd.
Finance - Main work of Finance Committee at the moment is trying to get
donations in for urgetn renovation work that needs doing. All donations will be
gratefully recieved. There are envelopes at the back of Church for this.
The Communication group are producing another quarterly newsletter. This
is a bumper edition with lots of interesting stories. Thanks to the
Communication group for all their hard work
July 2011
A meeting was held on 8th July to discuss the future of the Parish Pastoral Council. A number of Parishoners attended and many Parish groups were represented. It was agreed at that meeting that future Parish Pastoral Council meetings will be held on the first Friday of every month at 7.30 in the Presbytery.
The next meeting therefore will be Friday 5th August. Anyone who is interested in the future of the PPC should come along to that meeting to make their views known. It is expected that all group leaders or a representative from each group will attend each meeting in order to ensure effective communication across the Parish.
Please can group leaders confirm
their attendance to Anne-Marie on the e mail address below.
If anybody has any agenda items for the next or any PPC meeting please e mail
to am.furse@yahoo.com
